Who we are

The Client Base (“we”, “us”) operates theclientbase.co.nz, a confidential service that helps New Zealand financial advisers explore the sale of all or part of a client base. This policy explains how we handle personal information, and should be read together with our Terms of Use.

What we collect

When you request a confidential appraisal we collect the information you enter in the form: the type of client base, approximate recurring annual revenue, approximate client numbers, region, what you are considering, your indicative timing, any notes you choose to add, and your name, business name, email address and phone number.

Form submissions are received and stored by Netlify, our website host, and are notified to us by email.

We do not ask for, and you should not send us, client names, client records, provider statements or other confidential client information as part of an initial enquiry.

How we use it

We use your information to review your enquiry, contact you about your client base, prepare an indicative appraisal, and — only if you decide to explore a sale — to identify and approach buyers who may suit your client base.

We also use aggregated, non-identifying information about enquiries to understand market activity and to keep our indicative valuation ranges current.

Confidentiality and disclosure

Your identity and your business details are not disclosed to prospective buyers without your approval. Your client base is not publicly advertised or listed, on this website or anywhere else.

If you ask us to approach buyers, we discuss client bases with them in general terms — book type, approximate size, region and characteristics — until you agree to identifying information being released.

We may share your information with service providers who help us operate the website and manage enquiries, who are bound to protect it. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

Storage and security

Enquiries are held in our website host’s form submission system and are accessible only to authorised people within our team, protected by account access controls. Enquiry data is never displayed anywhere on this website.

Our website is hosted by Netlify. Information may therefore be stored on servers located outside New Zealand, in jurisdictions that may not have the same privacy protections. We take reasonable steps to ensure comparable safeguards apply.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry information for as long as it is needed for the purposes above, and afterwards where we are required to retain records. You can ask us to delete your enquiry at any time and we will do so unless we are required to keep it.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us and we will respond as soon as we reasonably can.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you can raise it with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

Cookies and analytics

This website does not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies, and loads no fonts or scripts from third-party servers. If we add website analytics in future, we will update this policy first.
